The Good and the Bad

New Yorkers choose where to shop based on a number of factors: price, convenience, and selection are the most common. But where we spend our grocery dollars is a vote of confidence in how that store does business; every time we shop we're voting with our wallets.

One of the easiest ways for you to make a difference in our community is to support grocers that treat their employees like partners instead of as an afterthought.

The map below highlights a number of specialty grocers in our community that pay fair wages, treat their employees with respect, and give workers a voice on the job; these are marked in yellow. Stores that don't, like Agata & Valentina, are marked in red.
